Remember Your Story

Writer's picture: Trevor Carr Trevor Carr

Your story is unique. Only you and God fully understand what you’ve overcome and how your journey has shaped you. Whether you grew up in a home filled with God’s love, overcame immense tragedy, or battled physical and mental challenges, your story is evidence of God’s transforming power. Whatever your story, you are victorious because you made the most important decision of all: surrendering your life to Jesus.

Remembering your story, your testimony, can be one of the most powerful resets. It builds our faith that God is able to bring us out of impossible places. Before coming to faith in Jesus as the Son of God the Bible describes us as dead, lost in darkness, and slaves to the desires of our bodies under the influence of satan (Eph 2:1-3). That is a pitifully dismal state of being. We were completely unable to help ourselves. Good habits cannot overcome inner darkness. But the light of Jesus can!

Recognizing how far God has brought us stirs a heart of gratitude. When we couldn’t help ourselves He sent His Son to be our Savior. When we were spiritually dead He gave us His Spirit to raise us to supernatural, unending life. When our relationships were broken He adopted us as His own and gave us brothers and sisters to strengthen and encourage us.

Our testimony is so much more than a story. It has the power to impart expectant faith to others as well. If God brought us out of so much, of course He will do it for us and others again. In fact remembering how Jesus sacrificed Himself for us and sharing our testimony is one of the greatest ways that we can overcome apathy and spiritual attacks of discouragement and accusation.

"They conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; for they did not love their lives to the point of death.” (Revelation 12:11)

Your testimony is a reminder of God’s faithfulness, a reset button for your faith, and a wellspring of gratitude. Write down your testimony in three parts: your life before Jesus, how you came to know Him, and the difference He has made since. Share this testimony with someone who needs to hear about God’s faithfulness, whether it’s a friend, family member, or someone at church.

Pray with your own words, or try these:

Jesus, thank You for saving me when I was lost and without hope. Help me to remember all You’ve done in my life and to share my testimony with boldness and joy. Strengthen my faith as I reflect on how far You’ve brought me, and use my story to encourage others. In Your name, amen.
